Salmonella in the garden from raw egg shells ? did you confirm this ? I would assume that salmonella needs a certain environment to grow and flourish. Just like our digestive system 'bad' bacteria are always present it's the balance of good bacteria that keeps everything homeostasis. And furthermore are you saying that this salmonella will be carried into the house on our shoes or grow through the plant into our vegitables ?? I would like for this to be confirmed and refined. This salmonella stuff sometimes seems to be blown out of porpotion.
On another note if dogs eat eggshells they probably are getting the good calcium and roughage. Some of our calcium supplements are from ground oyster shell.
